Brief description of Comilla Central Jail

Comilla District Jail started its journey in 1792 with 15 jailers on an area of about 67 acres in Chhota Ramoja, Sadar Upazila of Comilla, present-day district of Tripura state in undivided Bengal. Later, in 1962, Comilla District Jail was declared as a Central Jail.

The current total land area of Comilla Central Jail is about 48.284 acres. There is 14.9022 acres inside the perimeter wall of the jail. The jail has 09 prisoner buildings, 03 cell buildings and 01 building and 01 cell building for female prisoners, 2 prison hospital buildings, 1 chowka, 2 prison canteens and a training and production department. There is a provision for children up to 06 years of age to stay together with female prisoners and there are swings and various types of play equipment for children.

 Islamic Foundation, Comilla has deployed 01 prison teacher and 01 teacher from among the prisoners to impart literacy knowledge (mass education) to the prisoners inside the prison and to impart religious education to the educated prisoners. Along with religious education, mass education programs are being implemented and various religious, moral and motivational education has been provided to the prisoners through the prison library.
